No fewer than 17 persons have been reportedly killed in Conan - Rogo village in Kufana District of Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State by suspected herdsmen.
The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday.
The gunmen were said to have invaded the community and started setting houses on fire just as they killed the villagers who ran out from the burning houses.
Security sources said that those who were lucky to escape ran into the bushes for their lives.
Reacting to the development, the
President of the Adara Development Association, ADA, Mr. Awema Maisamari confirmed the incident Tuesday, saying that the hoodlums who were heavily armed with guns, daggers and knives arrived the village in large numbers.
According to Maisamari, who said he had already visited the community some of the villagers were killed with guns while others were macheted to death.
His words, “The attackers were Fulani herdsmen, they invaded the community at about 1:00 pm on Tuesday and started killing people.
“Twelve of people were killed on the spot, the corpses of five others were recovered in the bush. There are those who sustained injuries.
“Some were killed with machetes, some were killed through gunshots. Some houses were burnt and some of those who escaped to the bush are still missing.
“About two hours after the bandits fled, the security personnel manning a checkpoint not too far from the community came. But they did not enter the community, they just stayed by the main road.”
Kaduna State Police Command Spokesman, Muhammad Jalige, promised to get back when he was contacted on phone.
“I will find out and get back to you,” Mohammed said, but had not done so at press time.
