Twenty seven persons have so far been killed by suspected herdsmen in three Southern Kaduna communities, the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU has said.

President of SOKAPU, Jonathan Asake, who spoke at a news conference in Kaduna, said that Fulani herdsmen attacked three communities in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state, killing their sons and raping their women and abducting some as sex slaves.

This was even as the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has condemned attacks, describing the constant killings in Kajuru Local Government Area by Fulani herdsmen.

Asake who spoke at a press conference Thursday, stressed that 27 people were killed within 48 hours of the attacks, pointing out that the southern Kaduna communities were now under siege of Fulani militia attacks.

According to Asake, a former member of the House of Representatives, no fewer than 15,000 of southern Kaduna natives have been displaced by the Fulani herdsmen from their ancestral lands and re-occupied them.

He further said that suspected herdsmen had sacked Galiwyi community in Chikun Local Government Area and "turned their wives and daughters into sex slaves after occupying the community."

His words, "On Monday, May 11, 2020, Gonar Rogo, another defenceless community in Kajuru Local Government Area, came under assault from Fulani herdsmen / militia.

"The following day, the attackers extended their murderous expedition to Bakin Kogi where residents had fled the town.

"They burnt down the town and launched another assault on another village, Idanu. In the early hours of Wednesday, the murderous gang of terrorists moved to Makyali where several persons were killed. In Agwala village, an old lady was mercilessly hacked to death.

"Totally, these attacks have so far claimed 27 lives within 48 hours, while the injured have been taken to various medical facilities for attention.

"Efele, Ungwan Modi and Ungwan Rana villages were also attacked and hundreds of residents displaced.

"Galiwyi community in Chikun Local Government Area came under invasion by herdsmen militia who chased away the men and turned their wives and daughters into sex slaves after occupying the community."

However, the Kaduna State Police Command maintained that 15 and not 17 people were killed in that attack while five sustained injuries.

State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige had in a statement said, "The attackers started shooting sporadically attacking the villagers and in the process shot and 15 persons, and injured five others."

However, the Chairman of CAN in the state, Rev. John Hayab said the persistent killings were not only despicable, disturbing but unacceptable.

Hayab said "CAN Kaduna State chapter is disturbed by the frequent attacks on Kajuru communities.

"Recently, the general frenzy is that despite the continuing attacks on hapless Kajuru communities, those responsible for ensuring the security of lives and property are only but paying lip service to the security challenge.

"Apparently, the honesty and commitment towards seeking lasting solutions to wanton destructions of lives are lacking, resorting to the usual propaganda.

"No responsible government anywhere will act as if nothing was happening when a section of her citizens are killed.

"The question is: Is the Federal Government being told the truth about the happenings in Kajuru or that it has chosen to ignore the defenceless people of Kajuru to suffer alone?"
