Alleged Emergency Rule: Kagote Asks Ogoni Youths, Others To Eschew Violence.

PORT HARCOURT: The umbrella  organization of all Ogoni nation in Rivers State, KAGOTE has asked youths in the area to eschew violence and avoid mischief makers during the Coronavirus pandemic. 

KAGOTE also urged the youths and other people in the area to avoid the declaration of emergency rule in the state.

State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, had alleged  that there were moves by some Abuja based politicians to create tension in a bid to enable the Federal Government declare a state of emergency in the statr during the pandemic.

Nsirim spoke in a statement in Port Harcourt.

According to the commissioner, areas where trouble would be instigated included for emergency to be declared in the state included Ahoada, Eleme (in Ogoni) and Port Harcourt.

But reacting to the development, in a statement in Port Harcourt, the President of KAGOTE, Hon Emmanuel Deeyah, asked Ogoni youths not to allow themselves to be used as cannon fodders by mischief makers to cause panic in any part of the state.

Deyaah stressed that the revelation by Nsirim was disturbing, adding that residents of Ogoni should not allow themselves to be used to achieve such dubious aim.

His words,"This is not only disturbing, but calls for caution on the part of the citizens of the state, particularly Ogonis, as our area has been mentioned as one of the places targeted for such sinister plan. 

"Therefore, our people must ensure not to play into the hands of mischief makers who want to cash in on COVID-19 to cause unnecessary tension in Rivers State because of politics and self interest.

"Hence, we must not allow others to use us for their selfish political interests. We should not put politics before the interest and the wellbeing of Rivers people but Rivers State before any other interest including politics.

"This is one time that both the State and Federal Governments should work together and start looking at options available to us, as a people, particularl by life beyond COVID-19."

He, also, urged people to support governments at all levels by working in synergy with them to ensure that Covid-19 is defeated.
