Lai Mohammed Refuses To Renew Frcn Dg's Tenure After Pulling Him Out Of Bbc Hausa Service

A week after the expiration of the four year tenure of the Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Mansur Liman, the Ministry of Information  is yet to renew his tenure.

Sources close to Ministry of Information hinted that Limam who is a kinsman of President Muhammadu Buhari from Daura, was pulled out of the BBC Hausa Service, which he was  heading and made the Director General of the FRCN.

He was reportedly promised a free hand but Imam occasionally clashed with the Minister of Information, Alhaji  Lai Mohammed over alleged attempts by the minister to dictate the news items to be broadcast by the organisation.

However, according to the terms of agreement reached with Limam before he left his former employers, he was to serve two terms of four years each and leave the stage.

It was said that due to the frosty relationship between Minister Mohammed and Limam, the former refused to either recommend the renewal of his  employment for a second term of four years to Mr President or even his replacement by another officer.

A source in Abuja, told Southeast Post that the main bone of contention was the meddlesomeness of Alhaji Mohammed in the running of the FRCN.

"The Minister has refused to recommend the renewal of Liman tenure or his replacement to the President, since the FRCN is under the Ministry of Information.

"Under the FRCN Act, the appointment of the DG is made by the President upon the recommendation of the minister of information.

"Liman, the Daura born broadcaster took up the appointment four years ago from the Hausa service of the BBC.

"The relationship between the minister and the DG had remained frosty over demand that broadcast station should be given free hand to operate without intervention from the ministry."

It was learnt that the minister preferred a replacement for Liman instead of renewal of tenure.
