Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has been disqualified from the All Progressives Congress APC, governorship primary, the chairman of the party’s screening committee has said.
Obaseki was disqualified alongside Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi and Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen.
The Chairman of the party's Screening Committee, Prof Jonathan Ayuba, announced the disqualification of the governorship aspirants at a news conference in Abuja, Friday.
Ayuba said Obaseki was disqualified because he failed to produce his Higher School Certificate, HSC, with which he reportedly entered the University of Ibadan to read Classics in 1973.
The disqualification of the aspirants shows that the contest is now between three aspirants including, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Dr. Pius Odudu and Osaze Obaze.
Ayuba further said the committee could not verify the governor’s National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, certificate.
It was further said that Iduoriyekemwen, was disqualified for supposedly dragging the party to court, while Ogiemwonyi who is an ally of Oshiomhole was also disqualified over alleged discrepancies in the names in his credentials.
Obaseki had earlier Wednesday expressed fears about the possibility of his not getting justice from the committee in a statement where he also accused Oshiomhole of being biased against him.
His Spokesman, Crusoe Osagie, who spoke said, "The extreme display of lawlessness and dictatorship by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole would reach its peak by 2pm today when he would announce in a press conference the disqualification of Governor Godwin Obaseki, from contesting the primary election of the APC.
“In record time, Oshiomhole has subverted all due processes and broken all the laws in the books in his ultimate quest to crown himself as the godfather of politics in Edo State.
“Like he stated recently that he is the Supreme Court and the ultimate determiner of the fate of aspirants for governorship seat under the APC, he has executed his preconceived agenda of stopping Governor Obaseki from flying the flag of the party, at all cost.”
According to Osagie, Oshiohmole haf, after using a false narrative about Obaseki’s educational qualification and failing in the process with the University of Ibadan’s response that he indeed graduated from the university resorted to using his characteristic brute force to disqualify the governor.
